Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7 PM (new earlier time) in the dining room of the Bristol Senior/Community Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT.

We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program. Our guest speaker for the September meeting will be Kevin Downey, who will speak about underground caves. His talk will describe minerals that form in caves and include photographs from many exceptional caves around the world. Kevin owns Well-Arranged Molecules (a mineral business), and he will have a selection of minerals with him at the meeting.

Hope to see you there!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, August 10 at 7:00 PM in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol.

We will begin with a short business meeting (see note below), followed by refreshments, and then the program. Everyone’s out of town for summer vacation, and we couldn’t find a guest speaker for August. So, instead, we’ll have a “brag night.” Please bring in the latest treasures you’ve found from your summer collecting. Or tell us about a fun vacation you took (to look at rocks, of course). This will be an informal night, with lots of time for socializing….in case you didn’t get enough at the picnic (or missed it!).

Running at the same time as the business program will be a special hands-on program for the kids led by club member Mike Z. (starting promptly at 7 PM). The program will focus on how to identify minerals (using their physical properties) plus uses of minerals. Look for this fun event in Room 100 (just a little further down the hall past the dining room).

Hope to see everyone there!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, July 13 at 7:00 PM (new earlier time) in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT.

We will begin, as usual, with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments and the silent auction, then our program. Our speaker for the evening is Dr. Jelle de Boer, Professor of Geology at Wesleyan University. Dr. de Boer will speak about the Temple at Delphi (in Greece). To find out how this relates to geology, come to the meeting (hint: there are faults, earthquakes, and halucinogenic hydrocarbons involved).

Hope to see you there!

The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in the dining room (cafeteria) of the Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol at 7:00 PM. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A NEW, EARLIER STARTING TIME.

We will have a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program.
The program is the Spring Auction–always a great time. New auction rules–a member may sell up to 3 (three) pieces, and the club keeps 20 percent of the sale. Please stick to the 3 specimen limit, so the meeting doesn’t run too late. As always, you must be a member in good standing to sell (dues paid), but anyone can buy.

Hope to see you there!
