February 2012 meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 7 PM in the dining room of the Bristol Senior/Community Center, 240 Stafford Ave. in Bristol. We will begin with a short busness meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program.

Our guest speaker will be club member Jason Glenn. Jason’s presentation is on the Michigan Copper Range, including a general overview of the region, with a discussion of the formation and characteristics of the copper deposits, the history of both ancient and modern mining in the region, and the minerals that may currently be found in the mine dumps. He’ll be bringing lots of copper specimens to show us!

Hi everyone…..happy 2012!

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 7 PM in the dining room of the Bristol Senior/Community Center, 240 Stafford Ave. in Bristol. We will begin with a short busness meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program.

Our guest speaker will be Mr. George Smith, a retired mining geologist. George will give us a talk on the mining industry–past and present–in Arizona.

It’s the Holiday Party!

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 starting at 7 PM in the dining room at the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol.

As per usual, the club will provide cold cuts for sandwiches, drinks, and all the plates, utensils, etc. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

There will be great food, lots of great items in the teacup auction, and lots of great company. Overall, a great evening….

Please RVSP by December 11 to Barb or Katie (contact info will be in the party flyer you will receive….or in any old bulletin you have lying around the house).

November 2011 meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the dining room (cafeteria) of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., in Bristol. We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program. Our program will be a talk on Minerals of China by Kevin Downey. Those of you who remember Kevin’s talk on caves from last year know what a good speaker (and fabulous photographer) he is, so come early for a good seat!

October 2011 meeting –new info

We just learned that our October speaker, Cathryn Prince has cancelled for October 11. We will still have our regular meeting and refreshments, and will use the extra time to discuss the upcoming show. But feel free to bring in rocks and other exciting things you’ve collected recently or any new acquisitions to show everyone else!

Hopefully we can reschedule Cathryn for another night.

It’s the last meeting before our show on October 15-16, so if you can volunteer to help out at the show, please come to the meeting and let us know!

CANCELLED–Our speaker for the evening is local journalist and author Cathryn Prince. She will discuss her book, A Professor, A President, and a Meteor: The Birth of American Science. Please join us for what promises to be a very interesting talk! CANCELLED
