Club member Harold (Fritz) Moritz will do a presentation on how to take photos of micromounts and other minerals using CombineZM. CombineZM is an open-source image processing software program that allows you to stack multiple images for greater depth of field–this results in better pictures…..and no doubt Fritz will have some good ones to show us!

Our topic for the evening is Digital Mineral Photography, presented by John Betts, mineral dealer from New York City.  John will discuss how to photograph specimens using digital photography. He will illustrate his shooting technique, the equipment used, features to look for when selecting a camera, and many tips and shortcuts for editing images in Photoshop. John maintains a free Online Mineral Museum with over 75,000 digital images of over 33,000 mineral specimens in the non-commercial portion of his web site at http://www.johnbetts-fineminerals.com/museum.htm

Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 7:00PM in the dining room (cafeteria) of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., in Bristol, Connecticut.

We will start with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program. The program is…..the Spring Auction!! Always a great time. Auction rules–a member may sell up to 3 (three) pieces, and the club keeps 20 percent of the sales. Please stick to the 3 specimen limit, so the meeting doesn’t run too late. As always, you must be a member in good standing to sell (dues paid), but anyone can buy. We only have one auction a year now, so if you want some great deals, this is your chance!

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 12, 2011.

THIS WILL BE A SPECIAL EVENT FOR PRE-REGISTERED CLUB MEMBERS ONLY. NO MEETING AT THE SENIOR CENTER IN APRIL.

Dinosaur State Park, Rocky Hill, Connecticut
Starting at 6:30 PM. There will be time to view the exhibits and have some light refreshments, before our speaker presentation at 8:00 PM in the Park’s auditorium. Our speaker will be Nick McDonald, a leading expert on Jurassic fossils.

There will be no meeting at the Senior Center in April.

Again, this month only, you must be a CLUB MEMBER and you must be PRE-REGISTERED to attend.
