We’ll begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then our guest speaker. Our speaker for the month is Fred Davis, who will tell us about the Spinelli Prospect in Glastonbury–where we find a rare (and radioactive) mineral called samarskite.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 7:30 PM in the Dining Room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT. We will begin with our usual (short) business meeting, followed by refreshments, then the program.

Our guest speaker will be Jeff Fast, who will tell us all about collecting Herkimer diamonds in New York. Jeff is always an entertaining speaker, so it should be a great evening. (The previously announced program on Roxbury garnets will be rescheduled.)

In case of weather problems, check WFSB (Channel 3) for closure information. Any cancellation will be listed under Bristol Gem and Mineral Club.

The program for the evening will be “Alaska….a little geology, a little mining, and some beautiful National Parks” by Dave Korzendorfer.

Our speaker will be Peter LeTourneau (from Wesleyan), who will speak about the Geology of the Connecticut Valley.

It’s the Holiday Party!

Tuesday, December 8, starting at 7 PM (not the usual 7:30) in the dining room at the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol.

As per usual, the club will provide cold cuts for sandwiches, drinks, and all the plates, utensils, etc. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

There will be great food, lots of great items in the teacup auction, and lots of great company.

Please RVSP by December 7 to Barb or Katie (contact info in the party flyer you will receive by snail mail….or in any old bulletin you have lying around the house).

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in the dining room (cafeteria) of the Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol at 7:30 PM.

We will have a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program.
The program is the Fall Auction–always a great time. New auction rules–a member may sell up to 3 (three) pieces, and the club keeps 20 percent of the sale. Please stick to the 3 specimen limit, so the meeting doesn’t run too late. As always, you must be a member in good standing to sell (dues paid), but anyone can buy.
