We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program. Our speaker for the evening will be Fritz Moritz. His talk is titled “The Big Gypsum Crystals of Glacial Lake Otero: the Origin of the Unique Dune Field at White Sands National Monument, New Mexico.”

It’s the Holiday Party!

Tuesday, December 14, starting at 7 PM in the dining room at the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol.

As per usual, the club will provide cold cuts for sandwiches, drinks, and all the plates, utensils, etc. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

There will be great food, lots of great items in the teacup auction, and lots of great company. Overall, a great evening….

Please RVSP by December 12 to Barb or Katie (contact info will be in the party flyer you will receive by snail mail….or in any old bulletin you have lying around the house).

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol, Connecticut.

We’ll begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program. Our program for the evening will feature Jeff Kalin, founding director of Primitive Technologies Inc., a company that recreates the material culture of Native American life. Jeff will speak to us on flint knapping (making arrowheads and other stone tools).

The “program” will consist of two parts–break-out discussions about the various roles for volunteers at the upcoming show, and then Fritz Moritz will give us a short talk on the iron mines of Minnesota.

We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then the program. Our guest speaker for the September meeting will be Kevin Downey, who will speak about underground caves. His talk will describe minerals that form in caves and include photographs from many exceptional caves around the world. Kevin owns Well-Arranged Molecules (a mineral business), and he will have a selection of minerals with him at the meeting.
