Several trips this month!
April 20 to Case Quarries in Portland CT. The Case Quarries are four small pegmatite dikes that are zoned to varying degrees. They generally have a thin border/wall zone consisting of granular quartz, albite, and microcline with muscovite, beryl, schorl, almandine, and columbite-tantalite. This zone grades into a coarse-grained intermediate zone of microcline and quartz, with albite, beryl and muscovite (progressively coarser toward the center of the pegmatite). See map in next bulletin.
April 27 to the Sterling Hill Super Dig at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum, in Ogdensburg, NJ. Events at the Super Dig include a tour of the Upper Mine and Mill, a Blackout tour of the mine, a night-time illumination of the “Fluorescent Wall” and collecting in all 3 collection areas.
