Our next meeting will be Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol. Because on ongoing construction in the building, we will meet in the gym. Please park behind the building and come in the back door. Access to the gym is blocked from the front entrance. The meeting will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, socializing, and a silent auction, followed by our program.
Our program for the evening is Garnets and Emerald Creek, Idaho by club member Bob Schuster. The talk will begin with a general discussion of the Garnet family of minerals and its members, especially a review of the garnet crystal types and how to quickly recognize them in the field. Next, it covers Idaho and the famous Emerald Creek location – its peculiar geology, history, and famous people. Then, what you should know about Star Garnets and how to cut them. Finally, it ends with many photos and tips for collecting at Emerald Creek. Must-see exceptional and rare specimens from this unusual garnet deposit will be available for examination and questions before and after the formal presentation.
