Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 7 PM in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT. We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, and then our program.
Our program for the evening is “U.S. Mica Industry Pioneers: The Ruggles and Bowers Families.” Fred Davis’s presentation on the history of the mica industry in the U.S. is based on extensive research. A century of Census records, property deeds, trusts and agreements in New Hampshire and North Carolina were searched to piece together the actual people, places, dates and events that provide a foundation for the history of the U.S. mica industry. Mining properties and activities are detailed, including some surprising new information never before published. The presentation is richly illustrated with images of original publications, documents, letters, photographs, period newspaper and magazine clippings and illustrations. Additionally, many new photographs of homes, mines and quarries, gravesites and headstones taken by the author help bring the history to life.
Hope to see you there!
