Our next meeting is Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 7:00 PM. We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments and socializing, and then our program. Our speaker is club member Fritz Moritz–his talk is entitled “Connecticut DEEP Collecting Sites.” (This is the rescheduled talk from March.) This program covers the history, geology and minerals of the three permitted collecting areas on state land. These popular places are:
–CCC Quarry & Prospect, Haddam
–Clark Hill Quarries: Nathan Hall, State Forest #1 & a small prospect, East Hampton
–Case Quarries, Portland
The talk is packed with many excellent photos of minerals, both common and rare, museum quality and mundane, taken by and found by many area collectors and like the places themselves, is full of surprises! But don’t think everything has been found already – many new finds are included. While one place is new, at least one dates from the mid-19th century and is perhaps even much older than we think – it may be the oldest mineral locality in the state. Even if you’ve been to these places many times, you will learn something new.
We meet in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave. in Bristol.
Hope to see you there!
