Our next meeting is Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Join us for a presentation by club member Dave Korzendorfer on Bancroft, Ontario.
The Bancroft area has been a very prolific source of fabulous mineral specimens for more than 100 years and is still yielding good finds today. The area has many calcite vein-dikes that contain many different minerals and excellent crystals that are often very large for the species. Many prospects, mines, and mine dumps are still productive collecting sites today, and tourism is friendly to the collector as evidenced by the local Chamber of Commerce, which provides various resources to the collector, including access to Chamber-owned collecting sites. The highlight of the season is the 4-day Gemboree show with organized field trips to different collecting sites. This talk will be an orientation to the geology, minerals, mineral collecting, and the Gemboree.
Our meeting begins at 7PM–we’ll start with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, socializing, and a silent auction, and then our program. We meet in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave. in Bristol, Connecticut.
Also note: Fritz will be doing a “Rocks 101” presentation at the June meeting (as a follow-up to “Minerals 101” in May). These two special programs are intended for “new” club members or “old” club members who would enjoy a refresher course. Fritz’s “hands-on” presentations will begin at 6:00 p.m. – before the start of our regular meeting.
Hope to see you there!
