Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 10 at 7PM. We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments and socializing, and then the program.
Our speaker for the evening is club member and mineral dealer Ted Johnson, who will speak to us about the mineral collector Ron Januzzi. Ron is one of several passionate, even iconic mineral collectors in Connecticut. Born in 1929, Ron has dedicated his entire life to the study of minerals. After leaving Connecticut some years ago, he studied the mineralogy of Maine and, currently, the mineralogy of Colorado. At 87 years young, Ron is still going strong. Some of his accomplishments include:
*Founded the Danbury Mineralogical Society
*Is a recognized expert on minerals from the Tilly Foster Iron Mine in New York
*Conducted extensive research to locate the “type” locality for danburite and other associated minerals
*Authored multiple field guidebooks and children’s books on minerals of CT and NY.
We meet in the dining room of the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., in Bristol.
Hope to see you there!
