Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol. Because of ongoing construction in the building, we will meet in the gym. Please park behind the building and come in the back door. Access to the gym is blocked from the front entrance. The meeting will begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments, socializing, and a silent auction, followed by our program.
Our program for the evening is a talk by Carl Balestracci on Stony Creek Pink Granite, a distinctive stone quarried in Guilford, Connecticut. This granite was used to build the base of the Statue of Liberty, as well as many other notable buildings in the northeastern U.S. Carl will bring tools used in the quarry as well as samples of the granite.
Hope to see you there!
The Veterans Memorial at City Hall (by Isidor Konti, Yonkers, NY, 1922) is one of numerous unique memorials incorporating Stony Creek Granite for its historical and traditional significance, as well as beauty and durability
